Ljubljana Fashion Week – a magical land far, far away.

On the first day of attending the fabulous LJFW I unfortunately forgot to accessorize appropriately, i.e., with food and water. These things tend to last long and I am prone to causing drama when hungry. In this case it could have been a real fashion drama which is even worse.

I left home around 5 p.m., shows started at 6 and lasted till 10 p.m. By the time I got back home my dogs were super excited to have their own doggy catwalk, whilst I was on the verge of eating dog biscuits from my hoodie pocket. So yes…bring food and water my friends.

Since we are in grace of a long Indian summer I decided to take a nice bike ride to the Fashion Week venue. After all, Ljubljana is a small city. Nevertheless this year’s location is so far away from my home that I took a shortcut which somehow led me through cabbage and pumpkin fields…in the weirdest United Nude heels off course. So as it turns out the venue is in a magical land far, far away. I must admit for a moment I felt like Cinderella going to a ball, but a brief moment it was, because of all the bumps, lumps and jumps from the field my “delicate sitting area” started to hurt. So my big entrance was hardly fashionably graceful. But at the end all the pain and dehydration was worth it, I got my katharsis…now I finally understand Kim K’s bike shorts fashion look.

Anyway as I finally sat down on an Ikea bench the show started. Everything was quite interesting because each designer was telling a different story in diverse colours and patterns, with versatile forms. I did miss some more thought provoking (even better-mind blowing) collections, but nevertheless there was a range from minimalist black&white, pure raw but gentle, open-weave gauze fabric of Things I Miss to poetic Draž knitwear infused by our masters of art Ivan Cankar, Grohar and so on, to geometrically peculiar coats of Nataša Hrupič. Pure artistry and made with love.

But as soon as my ears recognized the first couple of beats of Prodigy I knew this was going to be the show of the evening. And boy was I right.

Barbara Vrbančič menaged to create an inspiring collection full of surprises and twists. Discrepancy of dots, flowers and brush strokes surprisingly and magically worked, the monochromatic black background came alive with vibrant almost neon colour palette, draped details gave an ease which made the collection young, cool and refreshing.
